Fellow Kiwanians:
From personal experience, I have found no greater reward in Kiwanis than venturing into a neighboring community to build a new club. To see young men and women listen to our message and core values, and step forward to join us in extremely refreshing and rewarding.
The only way anyone, or any organization, can coast is downhill. Although many of our leaders have tried, we have not found a way to consistently grow our membership. For many Kiwanians, building new Kiwanis Clubs has become a difficult task to be avoided. We must develop the strategies and make the right moves to motivate ourselves and others to undertake this task with a passion.
The club meeting is the core of all Kiwanis activities. It, more than anything else, defines the level of the club's success. Effective club meetings motivate members to attend, and their attendance leads to motivation to participate in the club's community service projects. This also leads to increased membership. We need to find ways to greatly enhance the club meeting experience.
Our Trustees must be deeply engaged with board, officer and staff activities. We are the guardian of the trust placed with us by clubs and their members. The widely publicized stories about detached board members in corporate America "not minding the store" must not happen with Kiwanis.
In my 2004 campaign to become an International Trustee I published a comprehensive position paper. This paper outlined my views on a wide variety of topics. Updates are provided in red text in the document. Click here to access this document.
